MD Kevin Spear Solo kayaking the entire Cornish coast!

UPDATE 12/7/2022 – He did it!

9 long days of paddling, and several bad wind days later, Kevin made it all the way around the Cornish coast, on his own! From Rame Head near Plymouth, all the way to Hartland Quay on the Devon border.

As a team we are immensely proud of Kevin’s achievement and the money raised.

Photos and videos of the event can be found on our social media!

And we are working on a documentary-style video of the whole event – coming soon…

So, what is 'The Big C Kayak'?

In June 2022 Kevin Spear, MD at Mortgage Marketplace,  circumnavigated the entire Cornish Coast via solo Sea Kayak.

His solo paddle lasted 9 days, taking him from Rame Head near Plymouth to all the way to Hartland Quay, just across the Devon border.

Kevin is passionate about the outdoors and is a keen Sea Kayaker, but nonetheless this was a gruelling test of his skills and endurance. Our hope is that through as much sharing and donating as possible, the event will raise a significant amount of money!

You can see the donations and encouraging messages on the JustGiving page.

Our fundraiser event for two fantastic causes:

Anthony Nolan

"Founded in 1974 as the world’s first stem cell register, we’re motivated by a mother’s determination to save her son, Anthony." Over 45 years later, three people a day are now given a second chance of life, thanks to generous funders and an ever-growing stem cell register. Anthony Nolan recruit potential donors, funding ground-breaking research, and providing the best post-transplant care from clinical nurses, we can cure people’s blood cancer together.

We raised the money for Anthony Nolan and Bristol & Weston Hospitals Charity, with the money for the later going to The Oncology and Haematology Unit at Bristol Royal Infirmary. Cancer touches all of us in our lifetime, either directly or a family member or friend. A significant amount of the money available for research and treatment is raised through charitable donations.

"The Oncology and Haematology Units at BRI are a centre of expertise and care for the whole of the South West region, delivering some amazing work. This charity is close to our hearts as both myself and another member of our team have had close family members treated by the team there and we are committed to doing the fundraise to support the tremendous work being done there every day."

"Anthony Nolan is celebrating it's 50th year in 2022 and is at the forefront of Cancer research, development and transplant treatment. They do incredible, life changing work for people affected by life threatening blood cancers, like Leukaemia and Lymphomas. I have been involved with them for over 30 years, initially as a donor, and more recently recruiting new donors and supporters."
